General Manager Bev Jowle begins this newsletter by inviting supporters of CCLSWA to attend our upcoming AGM (Friday 21 October). She highlights the importance of working with Consumer Protection to start an active campaign on scams.
Principal Solicitor Roberta Grealish shares the continued work that CCLSWA is doing in engaging regional CLCs, opening up further opportunities for collaboration. Roberta also reflects on a hard-fought case of one of our solicitors, Nadia-Rose, in which the ePayments code was used to give AFCA discretion to reduce a consumer’s liability for a scam loss.
Community Legal Education with the Adult Migrant English Program continued this month with students at Joondalup TAFE. There was further CLE conducted with FCAWA’s Hot Topics and a focus on Legal Information vs Legal Advice delivered by Senior Solicitor Rowan Kelly.
There is also information on how to order FREE educational posters from Women’s Legal Service WA. These posters are aimed at debunking myths used by perpetrators to prevent women from leaving abusive relationships and have been translated into Arabic, Farsi, Punjabi and Vietnamese.
