The Shield: February 2020

February is off to an exciting start as Gemma spoke at the Perth Festival with Dan Ziffer, ABC journalist and author of the excellent book ‘A Wunch of Bankers’. Both speakers shared stories from the Royal Commission and juicy details from the Commission’s findings.

As we are now well into February, it is also an opportune time for CCLSWA to kick start our series of interactive community education sessions!

This month, CCLSWA join hands with the TAFE English Migrant Education Program delivering free sessions to newly arrived migrants. This is a great way to build relationships with newly arrived migrants in the WA community and boost their knowledge on consumer and financial rights.

We are also few months into #RefreshingtheRegions and have already received amazing feedback on the sessions. CCLSWA continues to deliver these sessions with enthusiasm as we aim to enhance knowledge on our area of expertise to all CLCs across the state. Book a session with us!

It has been a busy month in the law reform space as the CCLSWA team endorsed the joint submission by the Consumer Action Law Centre to Treasury on establishing a ‘Compensation Scheme of Last Resort’. We also made a submission to the Senate Economics Legislation Committee calling for Small Amount Credit Contract legislation to be passed as a matter of urgency.

Lastly, did you know that CCLSWA continues to achieve a high rating amongst our volunteers as an organisation they would recommend to their peers for volunteering?
