Our former volunteer, Tania Joppich, has written a report into the Ramsay Review. Tania completed her report as part of an internship program through Curtin University, coordinated by Dr Eileen Webb. Dr Webb is the Director of Consumer and Small Business Law at Curtin University, an accomplished author in the area of competition and consumer law, and the winner of the Dean’s research award for 2016.

The Ramsay Review examines the financial system’s current external dispute resolution and complaints framework. CCLSWA has made joint submissions to the Ramsay Review supporting the development of a single dispute resolution body and an increase in the compensation cap to $2 million. A key outcome of the Ramsay Review is the Federal Government’s announcement that it will adopt the recommendation to develop a single dispute resolution body to be known as the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. This significant development in the EDR framework has the potential to significantly increase efficiency and access to justice for consumers Australia wide.

You can read CCLSWA’s full submissions here.

CCLSWA advises clients on consumer credit issues and often in relation to banking practice. If you require advice with regard to consumer credit issues involving an external dispute resolution scheme, please call our advice line on (08) 9221 7066.
