A recent Four Corners story, ‘On The Brink’ explores the daily struggle faced by many Australians surviving on the Federal Government’s Newstart Allowance. Interviews with several Newstart recipients show the extreme financial difficulty which they must live with every day.
The story also illuminates some of the much-needed assistance being provided by financial counsellors and charitable organisations.
