Victims of tech-support scams in WA have lost a total of $150,000 in the last financial year. The figures released by WA ScamNet indicate that the number of the victims reporting a loss has also tripled in the last two years. These scams involve victims receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be a tech support officer asking for remote access to the victim’s computer. The Commissioner for Consumer Protection, Anne Driscoll, asked everyone to guard their personal information and never let anyone have remote access to their computer unless they initiated the contact first.
