Internet banking is a fast and convenient way of paying bills or transferring money from one account to another using your computer or mobile phone.
If you are using internet or mobile banking to transfer money, you should be careful to make sure all of the details that you enter are correct. Banks rely on the information that you enter. Not all banks will check that BSB and account numbers match the name of the account you are sending money to.
We recommend that you double check the BSB (Bank State Branch) number and account number before you finalise the payment. To check a BSB number, you can use the Australian Payments Clearing Association’s BSB Search tool.
If you have transferred money to the wrong account by incorrectly entering the BSB number or the account number, you should report it to your bank or finance provider as soon as you become aware of the error.
The sooner you report the problem, the more likely it is that you will get your money back. The appropriate contact details for your bank can usually be found on their website, in the ‘contact us’ section.
