In December 2016 the Consumers Federation of Australia (CFA) made a submission to the Productivity Commission declaring its strong  support for the commission’s findings that there are “material gaps in consumer input in policy processes and that the Commonwealth Government should provide additional public funding for consumer advocacy”.

Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc.  (CCLSWA) endorsed the submission.

CFA provided recommendations to amend the Australian Consumer Law framework. One recommendation was the establishment of a Consumer Law Fund comprised of pecuniary penalties obtained for breaches of the consumer law. This will fund consumer advocacy by not-for-profit organisations

You can read the full submission here.

CCLSWA provides free and confidential legal advice to WA consumers on financial related disputes as well as the Australian Consumer Law. If you require advice please call our Telephone Advice Line on (08) 9221 7066.
